Mainly for Spanish speakers and for students of other nationalities on interview and placement test.
Total Course Hours: 100 (6 American Credits)
Classes from Monday to Friday - from 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

Objectives: At the end of this course, it is expected that the student will have more ability to make assumptions, raise hypotheses, make reports using the passive voice, talk about the various forms of sports and leisure, talk about health problems and medical specialties. To interpret and comment about literary works, chronicles and journalistic texts, with more confidence. It is also expected that he will be able to understand a great deal of programs and movies on TV, with a predominance of colloquial language.

Brazilian History and Culture
As a reflex of each other, language and culture are closely linked. That’s why the language teaching cannot be separated from the lively contact with their people and the culture.
The language teaching of our course is carried out in different cultural and social contexts, which provides a rich experience for the students to practice Portuguese in a very real and pleasant atmosphere.
Here are some of the topics studied:
- About Brazil – famous Brazilian cities including features of the 5 region – their people, culture, popular myths and legends.
- A guided visit to ‘Memorial da América Latina’, a monument to the cultural, political, economic and social development in Latin America , designed by Oscar Niemeyer. The cultural project was developed by the anthropologist Darcy Ribeiro . The memorial features a permanent collection of works of art , displayed along the terrace and indoors, and has a documentation center for folk art in Latin America.
- A guided visit to ‘Museu do Ipiranga’, the Paulista Museum, part of the architectural complex of the Independence Park. It is the most important museum of the University of São Paulo and one of the most visited of the state capital . It accounts for a large collection of objects , furniture and works of art with historical value, especially those that have some relation to the independence of Brazil and the corresponding historical period. One of the best-known works of its collection is the picture of 1888 the artist Pedro Americo , "Independence or Death."
- A Cooking Class – ‘mão na massa’ - students prepare a typical Brazilian dish and enjoy it with the typical ‘caipirinha’ and ‘guaraná’. Vocabulary improvement and lots of language practice.
- Reading texts by famous authors from Brazilian literature
- A Brazilian typical dance class and a jewelry-making class are also part of the program.
Minimum required attendance: 75%
Requirement for the registration: Written test and interview with the Pedagogical Coordinator.
